CDC Launches New Text Messaging Pilot!

Photo: Sign Up for Text Messages on H1N1 Flu and MoreSign up now to take part in CDC's three-month text messaging pilot project and have health tips delivered directly to your cell phone.

CDC has launched a pilot project that is using mobile text messages to quickly share important health information about H1N1 flu and other important health topics such as hurricane preparedness information. This pilot project will last three months and give you the opportunity to share your opinions about the pilot to help CDC learn more about using text messages to provide health information. CDC's text messages contain short health tips with links to additional information if you have questions or want to learn more.

This is a great chance for you to be among the first to receive accurate, up-to-date, and credible health information on how to reduce your risk of getting sick and suggestions for what you can do to prevent spreading the flu to others. These important health messages can easily be shared to help protect the health of your friends, co-workers, and family members!

CDC is not charging for this service, although your mobile carrier will apply standard text messaging rates which vary according to your mobile carrier and plan. If you sign up for this service, you can expect to receive about three text messages a week until the three month pilot concludes in the first week of December.

How to Subscribe to this Text Messaging Pilot:

Text the word HEALTH to 87000. After signing up, you will start receiving text messages from CDC.

How to Opt Out of this Pilot:

You can opt out at any time by simply replying HEALTH QUIT.
