Activity Immunization Clinic during Frontier Emergency Dispensing Site Drill
Description During National Influenza Vaccination Week, the towns of Deerfield, Conway, Sunderland, and Whately are incorporating the dispensing of flu shots to adults and FluMist to children into our Emergency Dispensing Site Drill (EDS) on December 1 from 10am-1pm. This is our second year conducting the drill as a four town cooperative effort. We have established a close working relationship among the four town selectmen, boards of health, police, EMTS, and firemen. Our local Medical Reserve Corps and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) serve as the primary volunteers. In addition, we seek to incorporate town residents as volunteers to build local capacity. This year members of the air guard will be observing our EDS Drill in order to participate in next year’s drill. At our drill we stress to our participants not only the importance of receiving the flu vaccine, but that they are aiding us in preparation for a real emergency event in which the dispersion of vaccine to a large number of people is necessary. The comfort level that we gain by all of our various town disciplines working together to form a familial relationship greatly contributes to the success of our EDS Drill and enhances the disaster preparedness plans of our towns. Evaluation will include debriefing at the drill site with all volunteers and ICS members and an after action report that will also be discussed at a follow-up meeting.
