Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) at CDC

Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) is a 2-year applied fellowship for persons with at least a master's degree, training and experience in a health-related profession and information or computer science or technology. Learn more about our program.

Mission

To develop a pool of well-trained professionals to meet the emerging and continuing need for public health informatics experts.

Eligibility

Applicants should have a strong interest in applying information and computer science and technology to the practice of public health.

Education

Applicants must have a master's or higher degree in a discipline such as

  • public health;
  • medicine, a related health-care profession, or health-services research;
  • computer science, information science, or information systems;
  • statistics; or
  • epidemiology.

Experience

Applicants must have previous training or experience in fields such as

  • informatics, information systems, computer science; or
  • an aspect of public health or related health-care profession.

Citizenship

U.S. citizenship is not required. Non-U.S. citizens are permitted to apply but must meet the visa and immigration requirements.

Program Timeline

Jul 1–Dec 14, 2007

Applications are accepted.

Mar 2008

Selected candidates are invited for interview.

Apr 2008

Interviews are conducted at CDC, Atlanta, Georgia. Applicants accepted for interviews are responsible for paying travel-related expenses for interviews.
Acceptance and placement notifications are made.

Jul 2008

Public health informatics Fellowship Program begins.

Application

You may apply on-line at PHIFP Online Application between July 1 and December 14. Review the General Instructions for Preparing a Complete Application and the Application Information.

In addition to your on-line application, submit the following items:

  • a current curriculum vitae,
  • two copies of any publications you may have (reprints or abstracts are acceptable) on one-sided on 8 ½” X 11” paper,
  • official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, and
  • three references from people who are familiar with your professional qualifications (include your thesis or dissertation advisor if applicable) including both a
