Native Diabetes Wellness Program (NDWP)

Grantees

Tohono O’odham Nation (Arizona). Program title: O’odham Ha’icu Ha-Hugi c Duakog: Tohono O’odham Food, Fitness & Wellness Initiative Project. The Tohono O’odham community is said to suffer from the highest rate of type 2 diabetes in the world. The project is promoting: the revitalization of the local food system that provides traditional foods; rebuilds the community infrastructure for processing, distribution and consumption of traditional foods; provides education on the nutritional benefits of traditional foods; and develops policies in schools, tribal, state and federal level regarding utilization of traditional foods.
