Percent of the Elderly Population with Mobility or Self–Care Limitations, 1990
All Women, Ages 60 and Older

A map depicts county-level geographic disparities in the percent of elderly women, ages 60 and older, with mobility or self-care limitations in 1990. While 19.8% of all women in the United States aged 60 and older suffered from mobility or self-care limitations, at the county level the distribution ranged from 2.4% to 40.4%. The highest proportions of women with mobility or self-care limitations were found in counties in the South, Central Appalachia, and the lower Midwest. For more details, refer to page 58.
